How many sessions do most students need?

A typical arc is six to ten sessions: a diagnostic, three or four on MCQ technique, three or four on essays with redrafting, and a timed mock review before the sitting.

The LNAT is how leading UK law schools — Oxford, UCL, KCL, LSE, Bristol, Durham and others — test the thing A-levels can't: whether you can read a dense unfamiliar passage, isolate exactly what's claimed, and argue in clean prose under time pressure. There's no law to revise and no syllabus to learn, which convinces many applicants it can't be prepared for.

Admissions statistics say otherwise: LNAT performance responds strongly to structured practice in critical reading and essay architecture — the two things a good tutor drills.

The multiple-choice section: reading like a lawyer

The MCQ section gives you long argumentative passages and asks precisely what the author claimed, assumed or implied — not what's true, and not what you'd like the answer to be. Untrained readers import outside knowledge and pick plausible-sounding wrong answers by design. Tutoring builds the discipline of answering only from the text, plus the pacing to get through every passage without panic.

The essay: where offers are actually won

Universities read the essay, and it's the closest thing to a law-school supervision you'll do before arriving. A strong LNAT essay takes a defensible position on a contestable question, concedes the best counter-argument, and stays ruthlessly structured in around 40 minutes. That's a craft. Practising it with feedback — draft, critique, redraft — is the highest-value hour in LNAT preparation.

Timing your sitting

Booking opens in late summer and different universities set different deadlines — Oxford applicants sit earliest, typically by mid-October. Work backwards from your earliest deadline university and give yourself at least six weeks of preparation before it.
